Nationwide Recall: Tragic Death of 7-Year-Old Linked to Popular Rolling Candy

Two candy makers are issuing a nationwide recall of their products due to a safety concern highlighted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The candies in question contain rolling balls that can detach and pose a choking hazard to children. This announcement comes after the tragic death of a seven-year-old girl who choked on a Cocco Candy Rolling Candy ball in New York. Cocco Candy, based in Turkey, and KGR Distribution, based in Passaic, New Jersey, are recalling approximately 145,800 Cocco Candy Rolling Candy items that were sold in stores and online from May 2022 through March 2023 for about $2.50 each.

Parents and caretakers are strongly advised to take these candies away from children and contact the respective companies for a refund. The recalled Cocco Candy Rolling Candy comes in flavors such as sour strawberry, sour tutti frutti, and sour cola, and each package contains two fluid ounces.

If you have purchased any of these products, you can reach KGR at 888-802-8823 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern or online at www.kgrcandies.com. Additionally, another similar product with the same safety issue has been recalled. Candy Dynamics, based in Carmel, Indiana, is recalling 70 million units of their Slime Licker Sour Rolling Liquid Candy, which were sold at various retailers including Walmart and Five Below, as well as online, between June 2015 and July 2023. There have been two reports of the rolling applicator ball detaching from the container, but no injuries have been reported.

The recalled Candy Dynamics products, which were made in Spain and Colombia, were available in packages labeled “toxic waste” and “mega toxic waste” in various colors such as blue, red, green, and pink. If you have purchased any of these candies, you can contact Candy Dynamics for a full refund. The company can be reached at 877-546-0483 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern or online at www.CandyDynamics.com.

It is worth noting that these two candy brands are just a part of the 15 products that have been recalled this year due to choking hazards for children. This includes the recall of a water beads activity kit in September after the tragic death of a 10-month-old child in Wisconsin who swallowed one of the beads. The beads expand in size when ingested.
