National League emerges victorious in MLB All-Star Game 2023, breaking an 11-year dry spell in the Midsummer Classic

The National League has finally broken their nine-game losing streak in the Midsummer Classic with a 3-2 win over the American League All-Stars. The NL missed an opportunity in the seventh inning but made up for it in the eighth when Elias Diaz of the Colorado Rockies hit a two-run home run, giving them a 3-2 lead. Craig Kimbrel of the Philadelphia Phillies came in as the closer in the ninth inning, allowing back-to-back walks but ultimately striking out Jose Ramirez to secure the win. Diaz was named the game’s MVP.

Tampa Bay Rays’ Yandy Diaz scored the first run with a solo home run, but the NL tied the game with a Luis Arraez RBI single. Bo Bichette of the Toronto Blue Jays gave the AL a 2-1 lead with a sacrifice fly. The NL’s entire infield, minus the pitcher, was filled with Atlanta Braves players at one point.

In a precautionary move, Blue Jays reliever Jordan Romano left the game due to back tightness. Manager Dusty Baker led the AL roster, while the Phillies’ manager Rob Thomson led the NL. The game was held at T-Mobile Park, and the Seattle crowd made it clear that they wanted Shohei Ohtani to join their team in free agency.

Overall, this victory marks only the seventh win for the NL in the Midsummer Classic since 1988. The 2024 All-Star Game will take place at Globe Life Field, home of the Rangers.
