MyPillow Auctions Equipment Following Sales Slump; Mike Lindell Attributes Decline to “Cancel Culture”

MyPillow, the renowned pillow and bedding company founded by CEO Mike Lindell, is currently hosting an auction for over 700 pieces of equipment. The items up for auction range from forklifts to office desks and cubicles.

According to Lindell, the auction is a result of MyPillow losing $100 million in revenue after major retailers decided to halt sales of the company’s products. Lindell attributed this loss to what he calls “cancel culture.”

In an interview with CBS Minneapolis, Lindell explained that the auction reflects a shift from traditional brick-and-mortar sales to a direct-to-consumer approach. He also mentioned that the company had to act swiftly after retailers like Walmart and Bed Bath & Beyond canceled his products. As a result, MyPillow now has a significant amount of inventory to manage.

Lindell expressed the magnitude of the cancellation, stating, “We lost $100 million from attacks by the box stores, the shopping networks, the shopping channels—everyone participated in cancel culture against us.”

Walmart’s online platform no longer lists MyPillow products, and the retail giant announced last year that it had stopped selling the items in its physical stores.

Other retailers, including Bed Bath & Beyond, Kohl’s, H-E-B, and Wayfair, have also suspended the sale of MyPillow products in the past.

Lindell mentioned that the company is currently consolidating its operations. While he didn’t respond to CBS MoneyWatch’s request for comment, he did state in the CBS Minneapolis interview that Menards, Fleet Farm, and some other big-box stores still carry MyPillow’s pillows.

It’s worth noting that this shift in MyPillow’s fortunes follows the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, which involved Trump supporters. Many of these rioters supported baseless conspiracy theories claiming that the presidential election was fraudulent. However, none of these claims have been substantiated.

Despite these events, Lindell has continued to promote the election theories, asserting earlier this year that President Joe Biden “didn’t win the election, that’s a fact.”

Obligated to Pay $5 Million

These debunked theories have caused further difficulties for Lindell. He had offered a $5 million reward to anyone who could prove that a stash of computer data he had acquired was not related to the 2020 election. However, when a computer expert swiftly proved the data was false, Lindell refused to pay the reward. Subsequently, an arbitration panel ordered Lindell to pay the $5 million.

In addition to this, Lindell is now facing a $1.3 billion lawsuit from Dominion Voting Systems. The lawsuit accuses Lindell of falsely accusing the company of manipulating the 2020 presidential election.

Meanwhile, those interested in acquiring affordable office equipment can visit the auction site. The auction, managed by a Shakopee, Minnesota-based company, will conclude its bidding on July 18. The items available include various L-shaped desks, bulletin boards, stacking chairs, office chairs, as well as heavy-duty equipment like pallet wrappers and industrial sewing machines.
