In a remarkable display of maternal instinct, a Mexican mother heroically protected her son from a bold young bear that unexpectedly crashed their picnic table at Chipinque Park in San Pedro Garza García, Monterrey. The heart-stopping moment was captured on video as the bear devoured their food just inches away from their faces.
Silvia Macías, the courageous mother from Mexico City, revealed that they were celebrating her son Santiago’s 15th birthday when the unexpected guest arrived. Santiago, who has Down syndrome, has a fear of animals, so his mother was worried that any sudden reaction could provoke an attack from the bear.

“The worst thing was that Santiago might get scared,” said Macías. “Santiago is very afraid of animals, a cat or a dog, any animal scares him a lot.”
