Monaco Finalizes Signing of Mohammed Salisu After Failed Move to Fulham

  • Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu completes his transfer to Monaco
  • The Ligue 1 giants secure the services of Salisu in a £17 million deal
  • Initial talks with Fulham collapsed, allowing Monaco to seize the opportunity

Southampton defender Mohammed Salisu has finalized his transfer to Monaco.

After a £17 million deal was agreed between the clubs, Salisu underwent a medical examination and signed his contract.

Initially, there were discussions for Salisu to join Fulham, but those negotiations fell through, prompting Monaco to capitalize on the situation and finalize the deal.

Earlier in the transfer window, Monaco had shown interest in acquiring the 24-year-old center back to strengthen their defense for the upcoming season.

Salisu, formerly of Real Valladolid, had one year remaining on his contract with Southampton and was not included in their squad for recent pre-season friendlies.

Salisu’s last appearance for Southampton was in March, and he was excluded from the squad towards the end of the season due to commitment issues.

The 24-year-old joined Southampton for £10.9 million and leaves after a three-year stint, having made 80 appearances for the club in all competitions.

A statement from Southampton confirming Salisu’s departure said, “We would like to wish Mohammed well for the future and thank him for his contribution.”

In addition to Salisu, Monaco has also been in discussions with Fulham for the potential signing of Tosin Adarabioyo, while Axel Disasi is expected to join Chelsea soon.

Southampton, on the other hand, faces the possibility of losing Romeo Lavia and James Ward-Prowse this month.
