After more than two weeks on the run, a pig named Kevin Bacon has finally made it home to Pennsylvania, thanks to sticky buns, Benadryl, and support from his namesake, actor Kevin Bacon.
On October 13, Chelsea Rumbaugh brought Kevin, a two-year-old, 200-pound Juliana pig, back to her farm in Cumberland Township. However, the very next day, Kevin managed to escape by digging under his pen. Rumbaugh wrote about this incident on a Facebook page she created called “Bring Kevin Home.”
Rumbaugh shared, “We were so close to Kevin, my 16-year-old was petting him. He stayed close but eventually took off into the woods.”
For the next two weeks, Kevin roamed the woods in the area, occasionally appearing at neighbors’ homes but always managing to avoid capture.
To alert local hunters and seek assistance from neighbors in tracking down Kevin, Rumbaugh created the Facebook page. It quickly gained thousands of followers who were concerned about the runaway pig.
When award-winning actor Kevin Bacon became aware of the footloose pig, he chimed in to spread the word by posting on Meta’s Thread app: “Bring Kevin Home!”
Meanwhile, Kevin the pig would continuously wander close to his home but scurry away whenever someone approached. Rumbaugh shared, “Kevin and I have been doing a song and dance since 8:30 a.m.” on October 30, the day before Kevin was recaptured.
Rumbaugh expressed her frustration as she wrote, “He comes close, I wait and then inch towards him, he trots away. He didn’t even ask to dance, he just thought it sounded fun I guess.”
Feeling desperate, Rumbaugh decided to lace a sticky bun with Benadryl in the hopes that Kevin would fall asleep. She posted, “Benadryl sticky bun has been eaten, and now I’m looking for a passed-out pig somewhere. We did see him at 6:40 in the yard, so I’m hoping he’s close,” on Tuesday.
Hours later, she shared a picture of Kevin back in his pen, exclaiming, “He’s home!”
Now that Kevin is settling back into his home and socializing with fellow pigs, he will spend his time relaxing and enjoying some snacks, according to Rumbaugh.
Rumbaugh also mentioned that she is considering writing a series of children’s books based on Kevin’s adventures.
The Facebook page has been renamed “Kevin’s Home Adventures” and now chronicles his day-to-day antics on the farm.
