Miley Cyrus Shoots ‘Black Mirror’ Video Just 24 Hours After Devastating House Fire

  • In 2018, Miley Cyrus was shooting “Black Mirror” in South Africa while the Woolsey Fire was devastating California.
  • In a recently released interview clip, she revealed that the experience gave her a lasting “anxiety vision”.
  • Cyrus also shared that she filmed the “On a Roll” music video the day after her house burned down.

Miley Cyrus boldly continued her work just one day after her house was destroyed by the Woolsey Fire, dancing in a purple wig and declaring “the show must go on.”

In a new video series promoting her single, “Used to Be Young,” Cyrus reflects on her scandals, triumphs, and tribulations.

In a recently released clip, Cyrus opens up about filming an episode of “Black Mirror” in South Africa while the 2018 Woolsey Fire raged in California. As one of the many Malibu residents who lost their homes in the wildfire, Cyrus describes the experience as surreal.

The episode she filmed in South Africa, titled “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too,” is part of the fifth season of “Black Mirror.” Cyrus portrays the character Ashley O, a pop star with a dark background. As we dive into the episode’s storyline, we discover the unsettling reality of Ashley O being controlled and exploited by her aunt.

In her interview, Cyrus reveals that for years after the fire, she would experience anxiety attacks with vivid visions of being restrained on a gurney. These dreams would occur whenever she prepared to perform on stage. She recalls thinking that these visions were unrelated and nonsensical until she realized that while her house was burning down, she felt trapped and helpless.

As part of her involvement in “Black Mirror,” Cyrus recorded and released the hit single “On a Roll” under the persona of Ashley O. The song achieved chart success, appearing on multiple Billboard charts.

Cyrus also shares that she filmed the “On a Roll” music video the day after her home was destroyed in the fire.

Despite the devastating news, Cyrus considers herself fortunate that her partner at the time, Liam Hemsworth, and their pets were safe. She took to Twitter to express her gratitude for what remained after the fire: cherished memories with loved ones.

Cyrus attributes the loss of her home as the catalyst for their spontaneous wedding just one month later. However, their marriage ended after seven months.

In a 2020 interview with Rolling Stone, Cyrus reflects on how the fire and subsequent events propelled her towards seeking personal growth and salvation. Getting married was seen as a final attempt to find solace and reclaim herself.
