During an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Former Vice President Mike Pence chose not to label Donald Trump as a “wannabe dictator,” in response to retiring Gen. Mark Milley’s parting jab at the former President.
When asked about Trump’s recent comments about Gen. Milley, Pence expressed his disapproval by stating, “I don’t know who he was referring to there but I must tell you that Donald Trump’s recent comments regarding General Milley were inexcusable.”
Trump criticized the outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, calling him “slow moving and thinking” and a “moron,” after Gen. Milley declared in a farewell speech, “we don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator.”
Trump and Milley have a history of clashes, even during Trump’s time in the Oval Office.
Although Collins pointed out that it was clear Gen. Milley was referring to Trump in his retirement ceremony speech, she continued to press Pence regarding the “wannabe dictator” remark.
Pence responded by stating, “It is very clear that he was talking about former President Trump. I mean, do you agree that Donald Trump is a wannabe dictator?” He then shifted the focus to the oath that men and women in uniform take, emphasizing their service and sacrifice.
Collins mentioned Trump’s response to the remark, where he called Gen. Milley a “moron” and called former Defense Secretary Mark Esper a “WOKE FOOL.” She also brought up Trump’s suggestion that Gen. Milley should be executed for treason.
Collins asked Pence for his view on these comments, to which Pence responded, “Well, as I said, his earlier comments regarding General Milley were inexcusable and really have no place in the public debate.”
