Two migrants from Africa are being hailed as heroes after their heroic actions in the tragic bus accident near Venice on Wednesday. Boubakar Toure, a 27-year-old from Gambia, and Godstime Erheneden, a 30-year-old Nigerian citizen, immediately rushed to the scene after the bus fell from an elevated road, as reported by the Telegraph. Having lived in Italy for several years and working in the construction industry, these brave men heard a loud noise resembling an earthquake when the bus hit the ground. Arriving before the authorities, they managed to rescue survivors from the overturned and burning bus.
Local media interviewed Toure, who recounted the scene, “We saved a woman with her young daughter, followed by a man, and even a dog. They all seemed to be alive. Then, I looked inside the wreckage and saw the lifeless body of the bus driver. I wanted to save more people who were screaming in agony, but the raging flames grew too fierce, forcing me to retreat.” According to Reuters, 21 people lost their lives in the accident, and at least 15 others were injured. Authorities suspect that the 40-year-old Italian driver may have experienced a medical emergency, causing the bus to crash through a guardrail.
