Mexican Cartel Members Armed with Rifles Apprehended by Authorities While Crossing US Border

Law enforcement authorities in Texas have apprehended two individuals with suspected ties to a Mexican cartel who were attempting to cross the U.S. southern border with rifles and armor-piercing rounds. Exclusive images obtained by Fox News show these individuals running across the border in the Fronton, Texas area on August 5, evading authorities at that time. However, two of them have been arrested after attempting to cross again. The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed the arrests, which were made in a joint operation with federal authorities.

Authorities discovered that the arrested individuals were in possession of two rifles and armor-piercing ammunition. They also seized tactical gear containing six magazines loaded with 5.56 rounds, “green-tip” armor-piercing rounds, and a machete. In addition, Texas Game Wardens K9s helped locate an AK-47 rifle and an M4 rifle that had been ditched in a river.

The alarming images of these men crossing the border are the latest evidence of cartel and smuggling activities amidst an ongoing migrant crisis. Earlier, Fox News captured images of smugglers with machetes intimidating migrants at the border. Another incident involved an armed smuggler guiding a group of illegal immigrants across the Rio Grande but managing to escape back to Mexico.

The border has experienced a surge in migrant numbers, largely controlled by cartels. The Biden administration has taken steps to address this issue, including collaborative law enforcement campaigns and sanctions against cartel leaders and members. However, Republicans are calling for further action, including military intervention against the cartels in Mexico itself.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has criticized Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to establish a floating border barrier along the Rio Grande. This barrier is now facing a lawsuit from the Department of Justice.

As the migrant encounters at the border continue to increase, all four major Border Patrol sectors are approaching or exceeding capacity. This situation poses significant challenges for border security.
