Sept. 8 (UPI) — In a devastating attack, Russia launched missiles on three cities in Ukraine on Friday morning, resulting in the death of one person and injuring 64 others, according to officials.

The missiles crashed into a police station in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, located in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. This act claimed the life of one police officer and caused nine other employees to sustain injuries.

“The fire caused by the missile strike has been extinguished,” stated Serhii Lysak, the Head of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration. “Our municipal services are currently operating and our dismantling works are in progress. The debris and shattered glass are being cleared, and we have established headquarters at the scene. We are providing water, food, and construction materials to the affected people.”

Lysak further revealed that a total of 14 administrative buildings, a religious facility, 17 apartment buildings, and four private households suffered damages.

In addition to Kryvyi Rih, the Russian missile attacks also targeted the cities of Zaporizhzhia in the south and Sumy in the east. Anatolii Kurtie, the acting mayor of Zaporizhzhia, informed that one person was injured during the missile attack, and the resulting blast shattered windows in 30 apartment buildings and three schools.

Authorities in the Sumy Oblast reported that an elderly couple was successfully rescued from the rubble of a destroyed building.

These attacks occurred a day after Russia claimed to have shot down two Ukrainian drones near Rostov-on-Don, resulting in an injury to one person.

Prior to these events, Ukraine had reported that a Russian strike on a market in the eastern city of Kostiantynivka killed 16 individuals and left at least 31 others injured.
