Hundreds of people stormed into the main airport in Russia’s Dagestan region and onto the landing field on Sunday, chanting antisemitic slogans and seeking passengers arriving on a flight from Tel Aviv, Israel, according to Russian news agencies and social media reports.
Reports from Russian news sources stated that the crowd surrounded the airliner, which was owned by Russian carrier Red Wings. The authorities closed the airport in Makhachkala, the capital of the predominantly Muslim region, and the police arrived at the facility. The Ministry of Health in Dagestan reported that more than 20 people were injured, with two in critical condition. The injured included both police officers and civilians.
