In order to optimize your chances of being elected in the March 2024 election for the city of Los Angeles, it is important that you confirm your residency by the upcoming Saturday, as announced by election officials on Tuesday.
If you are running for Council Districts 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 14 or the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education District 1, 3, 5, and 7, you must be a resident within your respective district by October 7. This requirement has been laid out by the Office of the City Clerk.
Failing to meet these residency requirements will result in disqualification from running for office, as stated by City Clerk Holly Wolcott.
The deadline for confirmation of residency is set by the City Charter as 30 days before November 6, which is the first day that candidates can file a Declaration of Intention to Become a Candidate.
In addition to residency, candidates must also be registered voters within their respective Council districts in order to be eligible for election on the council. Those running for the LAUSD board must be registered voters within the school district.
The Office of the City Clerk is responsible for administering candidate filings for the city and the LAUSD.
The primary nominating election for the city will take place on March 5, with the general municipal election scheduled for November 5, 2024.
