Man Confesses to Kidnapping Girlfriend in Banning, Receives Prison Sentence

A 32-year-old man in Banning who forcibly removed his girlfriend from a motel and transported her to another location has pleaded guilty to kidnapping and related charges. He has been sentenced to five years in state prison.

Hector Puga Sanchez admitted to the abduction and a charge of domestic violence with an additional allegation of causing serious bodily harm during a hearing at the Banning Justice Center. The plea was accepted by Riverside County Superior Court Judge Joshlyn Pulliam, who imposed the agreed-upon sentence.

The incident occurred on June 11 when Sanchez forcibly entered the room at the Days Inn where his girlfriend was staying. He dragged her out of the room and fled, prompting witnesses to call 911, according to the Banning Police Department spokeswoman Sol Avila. Patrol officers arrived shortly after but were unable to locate the defendant and victim.

Five days later, detectives located the woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, and discovered that she had suffered a serious injury. She identified Sanchez as her attacker. The victim received medical treatment and has since recovered. Investigators tracked Sanchez to a transient encampment near railroad tracks, where he was arrested on June 20 without incident.

Prior to this incident, Sanchez had no prior felony convictions in Riverside County.
