Love Islander Catherine Agbaje from Dublin Opens Up About Trolls’ Disturbing Impact on Her Mental Health Post Show

Dubliner Ms Agbaje quickly became a fan favorite on the popular reality show, Love Island, but her post-show experience has been marred by online trolls. In an interview at Virgin Media’s autumn season launch, she revealed the extent of the abuse she faced on social media. Ms Agbaje received messages telling her to harm herself and was shocked by the sheer volume of negative messages she received every day. Despite this, she chose not to engage with the trolls and instead focused on the positive support she received from her fans.
As for the trolling, Ms Agbaje admitted that she had to deal with it mentally, but she recognized that along with the negative comments, there were also people who genuinely cared about her. She acknowledged that life after Love Island opened doors for future success and expressed her desire to focus on beauty, lifestyle, and travel, while staying connected to Ireland.
Regarding her former partner from the show, Mr van der Sluis, Ms Agbaje stated that she was happy for him, despite his early exit from Love Island USA. She described their relationship as close and supportive, emphasizing that they remain friends and wish each other the best.
The launch event, held at the Stella Cinema in Rathmines, showcased upcoming shows on Virgin Media, including documentaries and popular series such as Gogglebox Ireland, Living with Lucy, and The Salvage Squad. Additionally, journalist Zara King will be featured in a documentary exploring cosmetic surgery in Turkey.
