London City Lionesses secure two-year contract with Ireland goalkeeper, Grace Moloney

Grace Moloney, a talented footballer, has made a transfer to London City Lionesses from Reading. With over 200 appearances for Reading since joining in 2009, this Slough native has contributed to their success, including winning the WSL 2 title in 2015. Moloney also boasts six caps for Ireland, qualifying through her paternal grandparents.

London City Lionesses had a strong performance last season, finishing third in the WSL 2, narrowly missing out on the title by just three points. Moloney joins Kyra Carusa, another Irish international, who arrived at the club in February.

Moloney expressed her satisfaction with her first week training with the team and felt welcomed from the beginning. She is excited about the upcoming season and recognizes the team’s achievements last year and the club’s promising future under the coaching staff.

Assistant coach Nicola Williams expressed her enthusiasm about Moloney’s arrival, describing her as a great personality and communicator who brings valuable experience from playing in the Women’s Super League. Williams also praised Moloney’s impressive distribution skills, both with her feet and hands, which will undoubtedly contribute to the team’s success.

The London City Lionesses will start their season with an away game against Sunderland on August 27th. In a few weeks, Moloney may face her former club, Reading, when they meet on the field.

In other news, Galway United confirmed that forward Gemma McGuinness has completed a move to AFC Bournemouth. McGuinness, who joined Galway United last January from Sligo Rovers, had a successful season with five goals in 16 appearances. Her standout moment came when she scored the winning goal in Galway’s All-Island Cup final victory against Cliftonville, securing the club’s first senior trophy in 25 years.

Galway United thanked McGuinness for her dedication and professionalism during her time with the club and wished her the best of luck in her future endeavors. McGuinness expressed her gratitude for the support and valuable experiences she gained at Galway United and is excited to join the National League Division One side.
