Listen to Megan Thee Stallion’s Latest Single ‘Cobra’ Released Under Her Label

Megan Thee Stallion is back with new music. On Friday, Nov. 3, the hip-hop star dropped her latest single, “Cobra,” marking the first release under her independent entity, Hot Girl Productions, after a contentious legal battle with her former label.

Accompanying the release of “Cobra” is its striking music video, where Megan is portrayed emerging from the mouth of a venomous cobra. In a captivating scene, she finds herself enclosed in a glass box, shedding her skin like a snake. The full video can be watched below.

In the previous month, Megan reached a settlement in her contract dispute with her former label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, and parted ways in an amicable manner, as reported by Variety. Just a week before the settlement, Megan shared on Instagram Live that she would be funding her music career moving forward as an independent artist.

“This part of my album is very much so funded by Megan Thee Stallion because we’re trying to get off … Y’all know what’s the tea. But I have no label right now,” Megan explained to her fans, according to Billboard. “We’re doing everything funded straight out of Megan Thee Stallion’s pockets… We are in my pockets, hotties, so let’s do our big one.”

The heartfelt lyrics of “Cobra” delve into Megan’s journey with her mental health and the obstacles she faces in her life. In the first verse, she raps, “Breakin’ down and I had the whole world watchin’ / But the worst part is really who watched me / Every night I cried, I almost died / And nobody close tried to stop me.”

In July 2020, Megan experienced a traumatic incident when she was shot in the foot by rapper Tory Lanez. Lanez has since been found guilty and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. In an essay for Elle in August 2023, Megan opened up about the trauma caused by the shooting and its aftermath.

“I don’t want to call myself a victim. As I reflect on the past three years, I view myself as a survivor, because I have truly survived the unimaginable,” Megan wrote. “Not only did I survive being shot by someone I trusted and considered a close friend, but I overcame the public humiliation of having my name and reputation dragged through the mud by that individual for the entire world to see.”

Megan gained recognition four years ago when she was included in Forbes’ prestigious 30 Under 30 list and was featured on the cover in November 2022. The interview hinted at her upcoming world tour, third studio album, and a Netflix
NFLX
deal that involves creating and producing a range of shows, including a comedy based on her childhood. Additionally, Time Inc. is investing $3 million to produce a documentary about Megan’s life.

“Cobra” marks Megan’s first solo release since her 2022 sophomore album, Traumazine, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album featured popular tracks like “Sweetest Pie” with Dua Lipa and “Pressurelicious” with Future.
