‘Lisa From Temecula’ Initially Shattered Ego Nwodim’s Role Like Never Before

  • Ego Nwodim experienced difficulty staying in character during the first table read of “Lisa from Temecula.”
  • The SNL star also expressed concerns about not being able to shake the table forcefully enough.
  • Nwodim expressed gratitude for the presence of someone shaking the table from underneath during the performance.

According to Ego Nwodim’s interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she initially struggled to maintain her character’s composure during the table read for “Lisa from Temecula.”

In the sketch, Nwodim’s character, Lisa, hails from Temecula and inadvertently causes a scene while attempting to cut into a well-done steak. Despite the disruptive shaking of the table, Lisa remains oblivious to the chaos she creates in the restaurant.

This sketch gained significant popularity, amassing 5.2 million views on YouTube and even inspiring a follow-up where Lisa demonstrates equally oblivious behavior while tossing a salad.

Ego Nwodim expressed concerns about being able to shake the table vigorously enough to land the joke, despite possessing unexpectedly strong arms.

Nwodim told THR, “Our table-read table is gigantic… I was shaking the table. So, like, your girl is kind of strong. But at the table read, I was breaking like crazy.”

Fortunately, Nwodim discovered that an individual would be hidden underneath the table during the live performance to assist with the shaking. She expressed gratitude for their presence: “I’m so grateful there is someone [under the table]. Because the first time I did Lisa From Temecula, I was like, ‘I don’t want to alarm anyone, but how heavy is this table going to be? Am I going to be able to shake it while doing it?'”
