President Joe Biden is determined to restrict the options Americans have when it comes to health insurance, particularly the 1.5 million individuals who choose short-term, limited policies. These policies, which were made available during the Trump administration, are now being rolled back by Biden in an effort to reinstate Obama-era regulations.
Often referred to as “junk insurance” by Democrats, these policies offer affordability and customization, lacking the extravagant features that Democrats believe are necessary. Previously, individuals could purchase this temporary coverage for up to four years. However, Biden is proposing to limit the coverage to a maximum of three months, or potentially four months at most, at higher monthly rates to only include “standard” policies. This eliminates the possibility of cost-cutting alternatives.
The underlying motive of this move is to eliminate any coverage options other than ObamaCare policies, even if it means individuals have to pay 50% more despite the subsidies available for those plans.
Experts across the political spectrum agree that the availability of these “cheapie” plans actually led to an increase in health coverage. However, progressives are unconcerned and do not trust everyday Americans to make decisions for themselves.
This scenario is yet another example of how “social justice” often translates to imposing the preferences and desires of the left onto everyone else through coercion and force.
