Cohen also stressed the need for appropriate vegan accommodations for Bankman-Fried’s dietary preferences. While Judge Netburn stated that she couldn’t overturn previous rulings about computer access, she did express her intention to help secure the necessary medications and vegan diet for Bankman-Fried. Bankman-Fried has been charged with wire fraud and multiple conspiracy counts related to his alleged theft of billions of dollars in FTX customer deposits and various illegal activities. He was extradited from the Bahamas in December and has been in jail since his $250 million bail was revoked. Prior to his imprisonment, Bankman-Fried had been living under strict rules at his parents’ home in Palo Alto, California. Judge Lewis A. Kaplan ordered his incarceration after finding probable cause of attempted witness tampering. This conclusion was based on Bankman-Fried’s attempts to communicate with the FTX general counsel and his disclosure of private writings by his former girlfriend and ex-CEO of Alameda Research, Caroline Ellison.
