Two Louisville men, wanted by federal authorities, were apprehended in Long Beach on Tuesday after evading capture for nearly two years. The suspects, Jerlen Lewayne Horton (29) and Tryvest Summers (28), were arrested following a two-hour standoff at a luxurious high-rise apartment on Ocean Avenue. The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) reported that the duo had been using false identities to sublease the apartment and had been on the run since November 3, 2021, when they managed to escape during an arrest operation in Kentucky. Inside the apartment, investigators discovered firearms and other incriminating evidence.
Horton, who had an outstanding warrant from the U.S. Marshal Service for violating his supervised release, was also arrested for aggravated assault, drug offenses, and firearm-related charges. Summers, on the other hand, faced state and federal warrants for stolen property and firearm offenses, in addition to being accused of tampering with a court-ordered GPS monitoring device.
“The arrest of these fugitives showcases the ATF’s unwavering commitment to apprehending offenders and ensuring they face justice,” stated Special Agent in Charge Shawn Morrow from ATF’s Louisville Field Division. “If you choose to use a firearm to engage in criminal activities, ATF and our partners will ensure that you are captured and held accountable for your actions. We are immensely grateful for the tireless efforts of the Louisville Metro Police Department, the United States Marshals Service, and the exceptional support provided by the Long Beach Police Department in keeping our communities safe.”
