As proud members of Kappa Kappa Gamma, one of America’s distinguished and long-standing college sororities, we understand the importance of sisterhood. Sororities offer a safe and nurturing environment for women to come together, grow, and establish genuine, lifelong bonds.
They also act as a sanctuary for us, biologically born women, providing an escape from the pressures and anxieties that college life brings.
Sorority members embrace diversity in all its forms, including different backgrounds, academic pursuits, religions, and sexual orientations. Title IX explicitly protects the right of fraternities and sororities to maintain single-sex membership organizations.

Being a member of a sorority is a lifelong commitment, as once you join, you cannot join another. During sorority recruitment, we were promised a remarkable sisterhood of supportive women. Kappa Kappa Gamma is founded upon principles such as honesty, respect, and unity. Despite our individual differences, the one thing that unites us is our shared identity as women.

Unexpectedly, our sisterhood no longer shares this fundamental scientific truth. In the fall of 2022, Kappa Kappa Gamma admitted a biologically male individual to participate in recruitment and join our chapter.
We were completely caught off guard. When we voiced our concerns to the national headquarters, even before a decision was made on the individual’s application, we were assured that we would receive a response. However, we were left unheard. Our inquiries about privacy and safety were either dismissed or met with demands to redefine the concept of womanhood.
It appears that the shared values of respect and truth have been abandoned.
Subsequently, we discovered that Kappa Kappa Gamma’s leadership had initially approved the male individual’s membership. After consulting with our chapter and national leaders, we concluded that filing a lawsuit was the only way to protect the integrity of female-only spaces and ensure the safety of biological women.
Our claim is simple: we were promised an all-female experience, and we have the legal right to that promise. Kappa Kappa Gamma’s bylaws explicitly restrict membership to women.

If Kappa’s national leadership intends to admit men, they should initiate the formal process to amend the organization’s structure and clearly communicate this decision to all chapters and prospective members during recruitment. We sincerely hope it doesn’t come to that. Women-only spaces are essential and valuable to our society, and rather than tearing them down, we aim to protect and preserve them.

We believe everyone deserves a secure environment to thrive in. We do not believe in compromising rules, prioritizing one member’s emotions over the security and privacy concerns of others. We do not believe in imposing personal opinions on others. We do not support discrimination against transgender individuals.
Women should not be undermined or discriminated against for desiring the single-sex experience they were promised and that is permitted under Title IX. Women deserve legal rights that guarantee community, safety, privacy, and opportunities within women-only spaces.
