Landslide Forces Evacuation of Twelve Homes in Rolling Hills Estates

A massive landslide has occurred, leading to the evacuation of 12 homes on Peartree Lane near a canyon in Rolling Hills Estates.

At approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, residents and authorities in the area noticed the land shifting, prompting the immediate evacuation of the residents.

Janice Hahn, Los Angeles County Supervisor, took to Twitter to confirm the evacuations, stating, “I’m in Rolling Hills Estates where multiple homes are threatened by a major landslide.”

Hahn mentioned that the Los Angeles County Fire Department issued the evacuation orders.

Deputies from the Lomita station of the sheriff’s department were dispatched to patrol the neighborhood and ensure the safety of the evacuated homes, according to Hahn.

In her tweets, Hahn shared several photos illustrating the precarious state of the homes.

She tweeted, “In this photo, it’s difficult to see, but there are homes in Rolling Hills Estates that are physically leaning, like this garage after the landslide. I had the chance to speak with the evacuated residents. Everyone is safe, but the homes are currently too unstable to enter. I have already communicated with Mark Pastrella, our Public Works Director, and we are extending full support to the city and our residents.”

The local electricity supply has been disconnected, and utility crews have ensured the integrity of gas and power lines, as per the authorities.

The American Red Cross is assisting the evacuated families in finding suitable shelter.

The cause of the landslide remains unknown at this time.
