La Quinta Robbery Suspect Reasserts Not Guilty Pleas

A 33-year-old man indicted for a robbery in a La Quinta business where he brandished a knife has entered not guilty pleas to the charges once again.

Argelio Maurice Reed, a resident of Indio, has been charged with one felony count of robbery and one misdemeanor count of trespassing and refusing to leave a property, as stated by court records.

After a brief preliminary hearing on June 6, Riverside County Superior Court Judge Magdalena Cohen determined that there was sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial for Reed on both charges.

Initially, Reed pleaded not guilty to the charges on September 14, 2022.

Sgt. David Smith reported that deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department’s Thermal station responded to a robbery report at a business on Highway 111 in La Quinta around 7:19 p.m. on September 10, 2022. It is alleged that Reed used a knife to threaten employees and stole property.

After Reed was identified as the suspect, members of the La Quinta Enforcement Team arrested him on September 12, 2022, on Jefferson Street, where he was found in possession of the stolen property.

Reed is currently being held on $50,000 bail at the John J. Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

Prior to this incident, Reed had previously been convicted of a misdemeanor count of vandalism in Riverside County.
