LA Department of Transportation Manager Appointed by Bass

Mayor Karen Bass has made a significant announcement, revealing her selection of Laura Rubio-Cornejo, the Pasadena transportation director, as the new general manager of the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. With an extensive background in municipal, regional, and state transportation, Rubio-Cornejo brings over 20 years of experience to the role.

However, before the nomination can be finalized, it must receive approval from the Los Angeles City Council. Mayor Bass emphasized the need for safer neighborhoods and improved connections to various opportunities while expressing her confidence in Rubio-Cornejo’s ability to execute critical traffic safety improvements and deliver exceptional customer service.

Connie Llanos, who served as interim general manager of DOT for the past 14 months, will be succeeded by Rubio-Cornejo. Mayor Bass commended Llanos for her exceptional leadership, stating that she has made Los Angeles a better place for millions of Angelenos. Upon her selection, Rubio-Cornejo expressed her excitement and pledged to work closely with staff, departments, and the community to deliver safer and more accessible transportation solutions.

Stephanie Wiggins, CEO of Metro, and Hilary Norton, California Transportation commissioner and executive director of FASTLinkDTLA, both showed support for Mayor Bass’s appointment. They believe that Rubio-Cornejo’s transit experience, commitment to collaboration, and understanding of the challenges ahead will be crucial as Los Angeles prepares for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympic Games.

Norton, who has known Rubio-Cornejo for many years, praised her project delivery record, coordination skills, and commitment to equity as valuable assets for the City of Los Angeles.
