Klobuchar’s Indifferent Response to Musk-Zuckerberg Fight

Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat from Minnesota, took aim at Elon Musk, the owner of X, and Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, regarding their proposed cage fight, urging them to instead focus on addressing policies within their respective platforms.

In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Klobuchar responded, “Whatever. Could you guys address the issue of kids becoming addicted to tech platforms instead? How about Meta’s impact on local news? It seems like after taking down everyone else, you’re the only ones remaining in the ring.”

Klobuchar’s remarks come in response to Musk’s announcement that the cage fight between the two tech billionaires will be livestreamed on X, with all proceeds going to charity for veterans.

Zuckerberg ridiculed Musk’s post, stating on Threads, “Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?”

Last June, Musk responded to a post about Meta’s new platform, Threads, which is considered a direct competitor to X, by saying, “I’m up for a cage match if Zuckerberg is.” Zuckerberg responded with “Send Me Location” in an Instagram story. Since then, their social media exchanges have generated memes and posts featuring “choose your fighter,” while both claim to have started training for the fight.

Klobuchar, who chairs the Senate subcommittee on competition policy, antitrust, and consumer rights, has been advocating for regulations on Big Tech companies.

She introduced a journalism antitrust bill last year aimed at curbing the power Facebook and Google hold over news outlets.

Klobuchar has also expressed concerns about the safety risks for children using social media and spending excessive time on such platforms.
