What we learned in Warriors’ tough road loss to Nuggets originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The showdown between the NBA’s past two champions, the Warriors and Denver Nuggets, started with both teams facing key absences. Denver was missing star guard Jamal Murray due to a right hamstring strain, while Golden State played without defensive leaders Draymond Green (personal reasons) and Gary Payton II (illness) on the tail end of a road trip.
Despite these challenges, the Western Conference contenders put up a fierce fight until the final seconds, with the Nuggets emerging victorious at Ball Arena with a 108-105 win on Wednesday night.
Steph Curry delivered 23 points, although it was considered an off-night for him, missing all four of his 2-point attempts and recording a game-high three turnovers. Meanwhile, Nuggets’ star Nikola Jokic scored 35 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, dominating the game.
Here are three key takeaways from the Warriors’ loss before they head home for a six-game homestand:
Stay Ready
Moses Moody stepped up in the absence of Green and Payton, contributing to the Warriors’ resilience and defensive efforts. His strong play was highlighted by his pivotal three-pointer that tied the game and his overall impact on defense.
TJD Time
Steve Kerr’s trust in his rookies, including Trayce Jackson-Davis, was evident as they quickly entered the game. Jackson-Davis’ ability to serve as the Warriors’ backup center and his mature play as a rookie have been valuable assets for the team.
Fourth-Quarter Curry
Fans were eager for more Curry in the final quarter, and they got their wish when Kerr sent him back in earlier than usual. Although Curry made an immediate impact with a three-pointer, his performance was marred by a controversial blocked shot and a missed game-tying layup. However, his break over the next two days will be well-deserved.
