K9 Fatally Injured, Gunman Shot in Response

San Diego police encounter ended in a fatality on a community college campus. The suspect, who remains unidentified, was shot and killed by law enforcement after he fatally injured a police dog. The man was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital following the incident at San Diego Mesa College. Officials are investigating reports of a shooting involving a white Tesla driver and another motorist. According to Sheriff’s Homicide Lt. Joseph Jarjura, the altercation may have originated on the road, possibly due to an attempt to pass or some other incident. Subsequently, the gunman pursued the other driver into a residential neighborhood, leading to the confrontation on the college campus.

Upon spotting the Tesla, officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver refused compliance. The individual then proceeded onto a campus parking lot and abandoned the car. Law enforcement officers, having visual contact with the suspect, released a police dog. However, when the gunman refused to surrender his weapon, he fired a shot, prompting an officer to return fire, resulting in the suspect’s demise. The police dog, affectionately named Sir, suffered injuries and was later pronounced dead at a veterinary hospital. Sir, a Belgian Malinois who had been serving with the San Diego Police Department since March 2022, was honored in a heartfelt Facebook post by the department. The loss of Sir has left a lasting impact on the hearts of the department’s personnel.
