The Problem: The Supreme Court’s Rejection of President Biden’s Student Debt Cancellation Plan

I support the Supreme Court’s decision to not place the burden of student loan debt on taxpayers (“Authority not Joe’s a ‘loan’,” July 1).

During my college years, my family couldn’t afford to send me to college. However, we managed to send my younger brother because he was the most intelligent in the family.

If the government wants to take action, it should investigate the high cost of college tuition. Colleges should be held accountable for explaining the reasons behind the exorbitant cost.

I personally never attended college, and I shouldn’t be held responsible for anyone’s student loan. If I borrow money to buy a house for my family, I don’t expect the government to cover my mortgage. It’s time to stop making taxpayers responsible for any individual’s debt, including failed banks or businesses.

Despite having obtained a college degree in their chosen field, some individuals are unhappy with the Supreme Court’s ruling regarding President Biden’s efforts to forgive millions in student loans.

These graduates fail to grasp an important lesson — responsibility. While some may not be as successful as others, many have secure, well-paying jobs and are fully capable of making their loan payments.

Taxpaying Americans cannot be held accountable for individual actions.

Biden provided false hope to 40 million former students. He had no legal or constitutional authority to forgive student debt. He was well aware of this fact but used it as a political tactic to gain votes.

Ignoring the Supreme Court ruling, he continues to make false promises by attempting to bypass Congress and the Constitution.

Biden, I borrowed a significant amount of money to help cover my tuition at New York University. Here’s how I repaid every single penny: no luxury vacations, no expensive concert tickets, no top-of-the-line smartphones, no expensive shoes, no fancy coffee drinks.

Surviving without all of those luxuries was quite a feat.

No, Mr. President, the Republicans did not “snatch away” your student loan bailout plan.

You were fully aware beforehand that you lacked the legal authority to forgive $400 billion — only Congress possesses that authority, as even Rep. Nancy Pelosi acknowledged.

Therefore, you bear responsibility for misleading and giving false hope to millions of Americans.

The Supreme Court declared that the forgiveness plan violated the Constitution, and that is the law of the land.

Your statement about attempting to work around the decision with a new bailout path without involving Congress reveals your political nature — or worse, your foolishness or lack of wise counsel.

There are simple solutions to the two Supreme Court decisions regarding the Colorado web designer and student loan forgiveness.

In the first case, LGBTQ clients should seek out an LGBTQ web designer. It shouldn’t be too difficult.

In the second case, the students who took out the loans should simply fulfill their obligation and repay what they agreed upon. It’s not that challenging.

The Supreme Court made the right decision regarding the Democratic student loan forgiveness program.

Yet, Biden had the audacity to go on national television immediately after and express his outrage. Joe, your program was declared unconstitutional. What more do you need to know?

We must put an end to vote-buying. Pay off your loans like I did — by getting a job.

Thank goodness the Supreme Court remained strong and followed the Constitution in the case of student loan forgiveness.

Like many other parents, I took out multiple mortgages on my home to send my children to college. These students willingly accepted these loans, knowing they were responsible for repayment.

Furthermore, only Congress has the authority to approve spending in the federal government.
