Fox News has chosen Jesse Watters as its latest star for the coveted 8 p.m. ET primetime slot. This decision comes two months after the network ousted Tucker Carlson from the position. Watters, who started as a production assistant and has become one of the network’s most popular faces, has established himself as a prominent conservative voice on Fox News. He currently hosts the opinion show “Jesse Watters Primetime” at 7 p.m. and frequently appears on “The Five,” one of the network’s highest-rated programs.

In an effort to revamp its nightly lineup, Fox News will move Laura Ingraham’s show to 7 p.m., while Sean Hannity will continue in the 9 p.m. slot. Greg Gutfield’s comedy program will shift to 10 p.m. to complete the primetime programming block.

Fox News CEO Suzanne Scott expressed excitement about the new lineup, stating, “FOX News Channel has been America’s go-to source for news and analysis for over 21 years, and we are thrilled to introduce a fresh lineup. The unique perspectives of Laura Ingraham, Jesse Watters, Sean Hannity, and Greg Gutfeld will ensure that our viewers have unparalleled coverage from our exceptional team for years to come.”

This move comes as Fox News’ primetime ratings suffered following Carlson’s sudden departure in April. The right-wing host was let go a week after Fox Corp. agreed to pay $787.5 million to settle Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit. Carlson’s departure did not receive a farewell, despite “Tucker Carlson Tonight” being one of Fox’s most-watched shows.

The ratings for Fox’s 8 p.m. slot noticeably declined after Carlson left, allowing networks like Newsmax to gain viewership in the following weeks. Carlson has since launched his own show on Twitter, but has not publicly addressed the reasons behind his Fox departure. Reports suggest that his firing was a result of vulgar messages uncovered during the Dominion lawsuit’s discovery process.

In the meantime, Fox News has sent a cease-and-desist letter to Carlson, claiming a breach of contract due to his new show on the social media platform, according to previous reports from NBC News.
