Jerry Jeudy sustains hamstring injury in practice and scheduled for MRI scan

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Jerry Jeudy, the starting wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, sustained a hamstring injury during Thursday’s practice session. Head Coach Sean Payton revealed that Jeudy will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.

“It appears to be a hamstring injury,” stated Payton following the joint training camp practice with the Los Angeles Rams. “We will conduct an MRI to assess the situation, but I do not have any further information to share at this time.”

Jeudy has been the leading receiver for the Broncos in two out of the past three seasons, showcasing his talent with 972 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2022. He also made an impressive fourth-down touchdown catch in the team’s preseason opener against the Cardinals.

Payton declined to speculate on the impact of Jeudy’s hamstring injury until additional information is available. However, he expressed hope that the injury would not be significant, considering Jeudy’s important role in the team’s offensive strategy.

“It is too early to make any predictions,” stated Payton. “In our system, we regularly rotate receivers, and Jeudy plays a crucial role as our ‘Z’ receiver and in the sub position. We are optimistic that the injury is not a long-term setback.”

Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi is also eagerly awaiting the MRI results. He acknowledged that some of the other wide receivers on the team will need to assume more significant responsibilities in the Denver offense due to Jeudy’s potential absence.

“I have not received any updates aside from observing Jeudy leaving the field,” said Lombardi. “Injuries are always unfortunate, but we will adapt. We have a talented group of receivers, and it’s their time to step up. It’s simply a part of the game, and we won’t let it discourage us.”

It is worth noting that wide receivers Tim Patrick and Jalen Virgil have previously endured season-ending injuries, adding to the challenges faced by the team.
