Jack Dorsey criticizes Mark Zuckerberg for ‘Threads’ follow request

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is in no rush to accept a follow request from his long-time rival Mark Zuckerberg on the new social media app Threads. Dorsey, known for his criticism of Zuckerberg’s “Twitter killer” platform, posted a screenshot on Saturday showing that the Meta CEO had requested to follow him on the app. Dorsey’s response? “Too soon, bro.”

Threads, which is connected to Meta-owned Instagram and shares the same user base, has already gained over 150 million downloads since its recent launch. It poses a significant challenge to Twitter, which has been struggling with declining revenue since Elon Musk acquired it for $44 billion last year.

Currently, Dorsey does not have an active presence on Threads. His account has zero followers and no profile picture. The Post has reached out to Meta for a comment on Dorsey’s tweet. It’s possible that Zuckerberg’s follow request was sent automatically when he signed up for Threads. Users are prompted to migrate their follower lists when they activate Threads through their Instagram account, and Zuckerberg already follows Dorsey on Instagram.

Dorsey, who is supporting his own Twitter alternative called Bluesky, was one of the prominent figures to criticize Threads before its launch. He expressed concerns about the extensive list of user privacy disclosures in the app store listings. Musk, who has threatened legal action against Meta over Threads’ similarities to Twitter, agreed with Dorsey’s point.

In another post, Dorsey took a swipe at Threads for its lack of originality. He tweeted, “We wanted flying cars, instead we got 7 Twitter clones” on July 6. Meta executives have positioned Threads as a more responsibly moderated alternative to Twitter, which has faced criticism from advertisers. When Musk temporarily limited the number of tweets users could see per day due to data-scraping concerns, Dorsey’s Bluesky experienced a significant increase in traffic. During this surge, Bluesky temporarily limited sign-ups as it is still in beta.
