Tanker linked to Israel seized by attackers off coast of Yemen
Off the coast of Yemen, authorities reported that a tanker linked to Israel was seized by attackers on Sunday. Although no group claimed responsibility immediately, the seizure took place during the Israel-Hamas war, adding to at least two other recent maritime attacks.
The tankers incident involved the Liberian-flagged Central Park, managed by Zodiac Maritime in the Gulf of Aden. An American defense official confirmed the attack, with Zodiac describing it as a suspected piracy incident and emphasizing the safety of the 22 crew onboard.
It remains unclear who is responsible for the attack. The vessel is owned by Clumvez Shipping Inc., which is linked to London-based Zodiac Maritime. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the attackers, the situation is being closely monitored by U.S. and coalition forces in the area.
Ambrey reported that U.S. naval forces are involved and advised vessels to steer clear of the area. The seizure took place over 60 kilometers south of Yemen’s coast, 80 kilometers east of Djibouti, and around 110 kilometers northeast of Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.
Recent attacks on vessels, like the Central Park and the container ship, CMA CGM Symi, have occurred amid the Israel-Hamas war and pose a significant threat to global shipping in the region.
As the conflict persists, the situation with the tanker seized off the coast of Yemen continues to unfold, highlighting the broader complications and risks in the area.
