A spokesperson for the Israel Defense Forces has stated that full control has not yet been regained following the attacks by the militant group Hamas on Saturday. Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Conricus explained to CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer that active battles are still ongoing between Israeli security forces and terrorists inside Gaza. He expressed the unfortunate reality that complete control over all communities and bases has not been re-established.
Re-establishing control is the top priority for Israel at the moment,” emphasized Lieutenant Colonel Conricus.
Hamas’ attack involved militants infiltrating Israeli towns and launching missiles into the country. The conflict has led to the deaths of approximately 250 people in Israel and 232 in Gaza, as reported by Israeli local media and the Palestinian government. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attack as “murderous” during a televised address on Saturday.
“We are not simply in an operation or at rounds, but in a war,” Netanyahu declared. “The enemy will face an unprecedented price…We are at war, and we will emerge victorious.”
President Joe Biden released a statement on Saturday condemning the attacks and expressing support for Israel.
“The United States unequivocally condemns this appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza, and I made it clear to Prime Minister Netanyahu that we stand ready to provide all suitable means of support to the Government and people of Israel,” stated Biden.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken, on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, also showed solidarity with Israel.
Blinken commented, “We firmly condemn the outrageous attacks by Hamas terrorists on Israel. We stand united with the Israeli government and people, and we offer our condolences for the lives lost in these attacks.”
