Is iPhone 15 Pro Overheating? Get the Scoop on its Temperature Concerns!

The iPhone 15 Pro recently launched and is already facing widespread reports of overheating issues. According to the Wall Street Journal, during testing, the iPhone 15 Pro Max reached temperatures of 106 degrees Fahrenheit while charging, and 112 degrees while charging and running a “processor-intensive” task like playing a game. A Chinese tech information platform also tested the Pro Max and found that it reached temperatures up to 122 degrees while downloading and playing a mobile game in high-resolution mode. While the Journal states that their test phones remained within normal temperature range during everyday tasks like texting or emailing, some users have reported uncomfortably high temperatures when trying to perform such tasks while the phone is charging.

Ming-Chi Kuo, an influential analyst cited by MacWorld, MacRumors, and 9to5Mac, suggests that the overheating issues are due to “compromises made in the thermal system” by Apple to accommodate the Pro model’s lightweight frame, which is made of titanium, a poor conductor of heat. There is also a reduced heat dissipation area in order to make the phone lighter. Kuo believes that while Apple is expected to release software updates to address the issue, the fix will be limited unless processor performance is decreased. The Journal notes that some users of the iPhone 14 Pro have reported similar problems and warns that these issues could impact the sales of Pro models, which are a major source of revenue for Apple.
