Investigation Links Legionnaires’ Disease Outbreak to Two Las Vegas Hotels

The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) has announced an investigation into three cases of Legionnaires’ disease in guests who recently stayed at two hotels in Las Vegas. In separate statements, the SNHD revealed that they are looking into two cases in guests who stayed at the Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino, and one case in a guest who stayed at The Orleans Hotel & Casino. Legionnaires’ disease is a serious form of pneumonia caused by the Legionella bacteria.

Guests who visited these hotels from August 1st onwards and experienced symptoms within 14 days after their stay are encouraged to report their illness to the Health District. The Caesars Palace release specifically mentioned that guests should be cautious regarding the disease until August 23rd. Common symptoms of Legionnaires’ disease include cough, shortness of breath, fever, muscle aches, and headaches, which may appear between two to 10 days after exposure to the bacteria.

The SNHD also issued warnings for individuals who are at an increased risk of contracting the disease, including people aged 50 or older, current or former smokers, and those with weakened immune systems. It is important to note that this story has been updated at 9:35 p.m. EST.
