Investigation Launched by Bacolod City Government into Counterfeit Business Permits

The local government of Bacolod City is currently investigating the issuance of fake business permits to identify the responsible parties. Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez stated that a preliminary investigation is underway to determine if this was done with the involvement of individuals working for the city government or if it was carried out by external fixers. The mayor also received information that some individuals who were previously associated with the city government may have been involved. Several business owners were surprised to discover that their business permits were invalid, prompting the mayor to advise all business owners to verify the validity of their permits. In his State of the City Address on July 5, Mayor Benitez highlighted the delays in permit processing during the previous administration, which led some businessmen to seek assistance from fixers. However, unbeknownst to them, their permits turned out to be fake. To address this issue, the current administration has implemented security features such as QR codes on business permits to prevent counterfeiting. Additionally, an online tracking system has been established to expedite the release of business permits.
