Investigation into Dam Attack Underway by International Criminal Court, Reveals Zelensky

The Kakhovka Hydro Electric Power Plant dam breach in Russia-occupied southern Ukraine has caused the International Criminal Court in The Hague to launch an investigation, according to president Volodymyr Zelensky. The attack took place on Tuesday, causing major flooding, with at least five people dead and 35 missing. Some 17,000 people have been affected and up to 40,000 could be affected according to estimates by the United Nations. Both Ukraine and Russia have been accused of carrying out the attack, with Moscow accused of committing ecocide through the destruction of the facility, and Russia accusing Ukraine of planning the attack themselves since last year. Zelensky confirmed the investigation by the ICC, stating that Ukraine was facilitating an independent and objective investigation so that “Russian terror” can be seen for what it is. As of Sunday, over 2,700 people have been evacuated from the Kherson region.
