Yellen Says the U.S. and China Will Aim for More Communication

After 10 hours of meetings with Chinese officials in Beijing, Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen announced at a news conference that the two nations would work to improve dialogue despite “significant disagreements.”

The relationship between the United States and China is of utmost importance in today’s world. As the two largest economies globally, both countries represent a significant portion of the global economy. Though they have significant differences, it’s crucial for these disagreements to be communicated openly and directly. President Biden and I believe that the U.S.-China relationship should not be seen as a conflict between great powers. We firmly believe that there is enough room for the success of both nations. Overall, the bilateral meetings I had, totaling approximately 10 hours over two days, have made progress towards establishing a stronger foundation for the U.S.-China relationship.
