In-N-Out Burger Prohibits Employee Mask Usage in 5 States

In-N-Out Burger has implemented a policy in which employees in five states, namely Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, and Utah, are banned from wearing masks while working, except if they can provide a doctor’s note. The ban is intended to promote clear communication and showcase the employees’ smiles, as leaked from a memo found online.

This decision comes in contrast to the strict mask and vaccination policies in California, where In-N-Out Burger is based. Moreover, during the peak of the pandemic, the company faced controversy for not adhering to safety precautions. However, In-N-Out Burger did not respond to media inquiries regarding this new mask policy.

While masks have been deemed crucial by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, they have also become a subject of debate and seen by some as an infringement on personal freedom. In-N-Out’s mask policy has attracted criticism, including a Change.org petition with over 1,520 signatures.

It is worth noting that the company’s mask policy is subject to local regulations and the guidelines for California and Oregon consider the specific requirements of those states. In-N-Out Burger states that it will continue to review its rules based on prevailing guidelines.
