Ignoring Your Friend’s Text Messages: Master the Art of Pretending You Never Saw Them

We’ve all been there – receiving a text message that requires a response, but not feeling up to it at the moment. Whether you’re too busy or not in the mood, it’s important to prioritize yourself. Here are some tips to ignore text messages from friends or family members until you’re ready to read and respond.

Muting conversations can be a useful feature, especially for busy group chats. However, it can also be applied to individual contacts to avoid distractions from specific people.

To mute conversations on an iPhone, follow these steps:

1. Open the Messages app.
2. Find the thread with the person or group you don’t want alerts from.
3. Swipe the text message left slightly to reveal the options to Mute or Delete, then tap Mute.
4. A bell icon with a slash will appear next to the person’s name, indicating that the contact has been muted.

Another option is to open the conversation in the Messages app, tap the contact name, phone number, or group chat names and numbers at the top of the conversation, and scroll to Hide alerts. Toggle this option on to receive their text messages without notifications.

If you want to maintain privacy and disable “read receipts,” which indicate when you have viewed a message, you can follow these steps on an iPhone:

1. Go to Settings.
2. Scroll down to Messages and tap it.
3. Find Send Read Receipts and toggle it off.

You can also disable “read receipts” for specific contacts by opening the Messages app, finding the thread with the person or group, tapping their contact name/photo/number at the top of the conversation, and scrolling to Send Read Receipts. Toggle it off to disable this feature.

On Samsung devices, you can turn off notifications for specific contacts by following these steps:

1. Open the Messaging app.
2. Open the thread or conversation you want to silence notifications from.
3. Tap the three vertical dots in the top corner, then tap Details.
4. Tap Notifications, then select Silent.

If you want to delay your text response on a Samsung device, you can schedule when you want to send the message by following these steps:

1. Open the Messaging app.
2. Open the thread or conversation you want to send a delayed response to.
3. Type your reply but don’t send it immediately.
4. Hold down the send arrow and select when you want to send the message.

Remember, while these tips can be helpful, it’s important to communicate with your loved ones and let them know why you may not be able to respond immediately.
