Hyundai and Kia Advise Owners of Recalled Vehicles to Park Outside Due to Fire Hazard

Hyundai and Kia have issued a warning to owners of certain car models to park their vehicles outside due to the potential fire hazard caused by the electric oil pump assembly.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has confirmed the recall, stating that the electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly might contain damaged electrical components that can lead to overheating of the pump. Letters have been sent to both Hyundai and Kia to inform them about the recall.

The affected models include certain 2023 Kia Souls, 2024 Hyundai Elantras, and 2023 and 2024 Hyundai Palisades, as specified in the NHTSA letters. Owners of these vehicles will receive notification of the recall via mail in late September. The letters emphasize the importance of parking the vehicles outside and away from structures until the recall repair is completed. Dealers will inspect and replace the electric oil pump controller free of charge.
