Hyundai Aims to Take Top Spot with Cutting-Edge Technology-Packed Kona

They have achieved double world titles with both the Ioniq 5 hatch and the impressive Ioniq 6. They have also dominated the sales chart with the Tuscon. Now, their focus is on the small/medium SUV segment.

Since its debut in 2018, the Polo-sized hatchback has come very close to becoming the best-selling car, selling 12,077 units, just shy of 200 units away from the top spot. But that is all about to change with the release of their new B-Segment offering.

The new compact crossover is completely different from its predecessor, with improvements in size, technology, and overall design. The front of the car has a futuristic appearance, with an LED ‘Horizon’ strip that runs across the entire width of the hood. This unique feature is mirrored at the rear with a 3D lightbar that accentuates its wide stance.

The SUV style is emphasized by its high ground clearance and durable plastic moldings that wrap around the front apron, wheel arches, sills, and rear diffuser. The car’s design includes sharp creases and a deep roof spoiler, giving it a sporty look. The designers took inspiration from the Tuscon, resulting in a car that is only slightly smaller in length and wheelbase. Additionally, the interior of the car is more spacious, offering a cockpit that rivals luxury brands. It includes two 12.3-inch digital displays, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility, and a range of safety features.

Initially, Irish customers can choose between petrol or hybrid engines, with a full electric version arriving in October. Higher trims offer additional features such as heated steering wheel and front seats, wireless charging, privacy glass, and a sportier appearance.

The entry-level model starts at €30,895 for the petrol version and goes up to €36,045 for the hybrid model. A full test of the car will be conducted in the coming weeks.

Renault’s new Kangoo is a workhorse with a view. It not only offers a larger size but also incorporates the best technology, including a color rear-view camera that eliminates blind spots when reversing. The third-generation Kangoo is built on the same platform as the outgoing Kadjar and boasts a payload of up to 1000kg and a volume of up to 4.2m3. It also features an internal roof rack for storing awkward items and sliding doors for easy loading. With 20 driver-assistance systems, it has been named Van of the Year 2022. The Kangoo is available with a choice of wheelbases and two trim levels. The tested model had a 95bhp, 1.5-liter diesel engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and achieved over 60mpg fuel efficiency. An electric version with a range of 300kms is also available.

Dacia has confirmed that the electric Spring will be arriving in Ireland. The city car has gained popularity throughout Europe and has already sold over 120,000 units. It features a front-wheel-drive powertrain powered by a 28.6kWh battery and a 44bhp motor, with a claimed range of 230kms. While official prices haven’t been released, it is rumored that Dacia Ireland plans to offer the Spring for under €22,000, making it the most affordable electric vehicle on the market. Volkswagen plans to launch their city car, the ID.3, at a similar time and price, presenting competition for Dacia.
