A mother-of-one from Canada, Kelsie Lorenz, is sharing her struggle with eczema and the negative effects of a prescribed cream. For years, Ms Lorenz used the steroid cream Elocon to alleviate her eczema symptoms, but it didn’t provide a long-term solution. In fact, her skin became thin and irritated, leading to painful flare-ups and oozing skin that made it difficult for her to perform everyday tasks, including holding her infant.
Realizing that her symptoms were a result of topical steroid addiction, Ms Lorenz decided to stop using the cream in 2020. However, this decision triggered withdrawal symptoms that left her in a worsened condition. Consequently, she turned to herbal remedies to find relief and has been cream-free for 1,000 days.
Accompanied by pictures of her face during a severe flare-up and her improved condition, Ms Lorenz reflects on her experience with Elocon. She expressed regret for not quitting the cream earlier, as it caused immense pain and hindered her ability to care for her child. Physical touch became excruciating, and even holding her son brought her to tears. The skin condition affected her life significantly, both physically and emotionally.
Currently, Ms Lorenz relies on herbal remedies and an antibody injection called Dupixent to manage her symptoms. She believes that Western medicine failed her and wishes she had received advice on holistic approaches rather than being immediately prescribed steroids. Despite facing challenges with the new treatment, including facial flare-ups, she remains optimistic that her condition will continue to improve.
