A Blogger’s Extreme Body Modifications Help Them Overcome Anorexia

A Kansas blogger, Jessy Kirkpatrick, who has battled eating disorders, claims that weightlifting and extreme body modifications have played a crucial role in coping with trauma and overcoming their eating disorder.

Kirkpatrick, 27, who identifies as nonbinary and prefers the pronouns they/them, had a healthy relationship with food during their childhood. However, in their late teens, they began experiencing anorexia, which they believe stemmed from severe childhood trauma.

In an effort to heal their mental health, Kirkpatrick turned to extreme body modifications, which include a stretched septum, multiple lip piercings, a stretched tongue, a stretched lip, stretched nostrils, and silicone horn implants on the forehead that resemble devil horns.

Kirkpatrick said, “My sleep routine improved, I experienced less pain, and I became more functional during the day.”

They further added, “Looking in the mirror, I no longer see a skeleton. Instead, I see a strong and powerful individual. The satisfaction I feel is indescribable.”

Anorexia had taken everything away from Kirkpatrick, both physically and mentally. But with their muscular physique, they feel they have defeated their eating disorder and refuse to give up on themselves.

Kirkpatrick estimates that they have spent around $12,000 on these body modification procedures over the past decade.

Their plans for additional modifications include enlarging their septum and lip piercings, splitting their tongue, getting full-body tattoos, adding more implants and horns, having “world record nostrils,” and even getting their eyeballs tattooed.

Aside from body modifications, Kirkpatrick also started strength training on the advice of their doctors. This routine, along with activities like swimming, tennis, and yoga, has improved their physical and mental health significantly.

Although Kirkpatrick still struggles with nutrition, they find solace in cooking their own meals, as it gives them comfort and control over knowing the exact ingredients they consume.

Anorexia is a serious disorder, affecting approximately 0.3-0.4% of young women and 0.1% of young men, according to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA). It is particularly prevalent among teenagers and young adults, with those suffering from anorexia being ten times more likely to die compared to their peers without the disorder.

While some people may not appreciate or support Kirkpatrick’s love for body modifications, their TikTok followers have shown a warmer reaction. Kirkpatrick remains confident in their choices, believing that they know what is best for their health and well-being.

Kirkpatrick concluded, “I am the boss of my own transformation because, ultimately, how I perceive myself is what truly matters.”
