Hot Wheels is partnering with Porsche to commemorate their 75th anniversary by transforming a 1987 944 into an off-roading shooting brake named the Dirtmeister. This unique model holds the distinction of being the first Porsche to be included in the Hot Wheels Garage of Legends, existing as both a toy car and a real car.
The 944, released as a successor to the 924, was originally offered as a coupe and convertible by the factory. However, Hot Wheels took a different approach by collaborating with California-based Kudensport to create a shooting brake. The roof line was flattened, while still maintaining a sporty silhouette, resulting in an increased trunk space and a third side window.
Hot Wheels then focused on enhancing the off-road capabilities of the Dirtmeister, going beyond what a stock 944 could achieve. Even the aftermarket, often known for rally-ready builds based on the 911, had largely neglected the 944. To accomplish this, Hot Wheels worked with third-party companies to equip the coupe with a custom-designed roll cage, Recaro front seats, a PCI race radio system, and a Garmin Baja Tread XL navigation system. Coilovers, LED lights, and Pirelli off-road tires were also added to further enhance the car’s ability to venture off the pavement.
While it appears that the Dirtmeister didn’t receive major mechanical modifications, a standard 1987 944 is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine generating 147 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. The engine delivers power to the rear wheels through either a standard five-speed manual transaxle or an optional three-speed automatic unit. It is our hope that the Dirtmeister retains the manual transmission.
While the Dirtmeister will be included in the Hot Wheels die-cast car collection, it won’t be available for a dollar at your local grocery store. This model is made-to-order and must be purchased online, suggesting that production will be limited. Pricing details have yet to be announced.
