Help Find Our Lost Lego Man with a Charming Child-Made Poster: Have You Spotted Him?

Boy’s Lost Lego Toy Found Through Community Help

When Jack Steel’s Lego toy slipped out of his backpack on his morning walk to school, it broke his heart.

“It was a truly special Lego man because I made it myself,” said 10-year-old Jack. He had visited the Legoland Discovery Center in Manchester, England, during the summer and created a Lego figure in his own likeness. Fondly named “Mini Jack,” he carried the toy with him wherever he went. “It really resembled me a lot.”

After arriving at school on September 14th, Jack eagerly reached into his backpack to find Mini Jack. To his dismay, he realized that he hadn’t closed the zipper properly and his cherished toy was nowhere to be found. He felt a wave of sadness wash over him.

“I was incredibly sad,” shared Jack, who resides in Ulverston, a small town in Cumbria, England with a population of approximately 11,000. “I thought about ways to get Mini Jack back.”

That’s when an intriguing idea came to mind — creating a missing person poster.

Jack immediately got to work using his colored crayons, meticulously crafting an elaborate illustration of the Lego toy. He carefully labeled each part, even highlighting the eyebrows.

“Light brown quiff with matching eyebrows,” he described the toy’s hairstyle. “Hawaiian shirt in blue with palm trees and an orange stripe at the bottom,” along with “dark green pants.”

At the bottom of the drawing, Jack added, “He is very special to me.”

To grab attention, Jack wrote a bold message at the top of the poster in large letters: “Lost!!! Has anyone seen this Lego man?” He also offered a modest reward of two British pounds (around $2.50) and included his home address.

“I thought I had lost Mini Jack forever,” Jack revealed during a phone interview with The Washington Post. He had packed the toy in his bag to show it to his grandmother after school.

Upon learning about his lost Lego man, Jack’s mother, Lorna Walker, picked him up from school and heard his heartbreaking story. While Jack seemed cautiously optimistic about the power of his poster in helping him find his toy, his emotions were held back by tears.

“He was truly devastated,” shared Walker. She also mentioned Jack’s plan to put the poster up on a pole along his morning walk to school. “It made me incredibly sad.”

Walker suggested that they first retrace their steps, which they did, although they had no luck in finding the toy.

Feeling disheartened, Walker decided to turn to Facebook, the popular social media platform, to share a picture of her son’s poster. She hoped that someone from the local community might have spotted the Lego man and picked it up.

“If anyone in Ulverston finds this Lego Man, please send me a message. Jack formed it at the Lego shop and lost it while going to school this morning, so he is absolutely devastated,” she wrote in a post that quickly gained dozens of shares.

The kindhearted individuals in the community sympathized with Jack’s loss and left supportive comments. One person even offered to pick up a new Lego toy for Jack from the store.

Though touched by the outpouring of support, Walker had doubts about the likelihood of the toy being found.

“I never, in a million years, thought it would be discovered considering how small it was,” she admitted, acknowledging that Jack had been a dedicated Lego lover since the age of 3.

Jack’s missing person poster, however, served its intended purpose. A slightly older girl who used to attend school with Jack found the Lego man during her own journey to school. She excitedly showed it to her mother, who happened to stumble upon Walker’s Facebook post that evening. Making the connection, she sent Walker a message informing her that she found a toy that matched Jack’s drawing and description perfectly. Ulverston’s local newspaper, The Mail, was the first to report this heartwarming story.

“I never thought he would ever get it back,” Walker revealed.

“I was overwhelmed with joy,” Jack exclaimed. “I never expected to find him again, but when people saw the poster, they immediately wanted to help.”

Both Jack and his mother expressed their gratitude for the response from their community, and in place of the £2.50 reward, Walker offered the finder a box of chocolates.

Once Jack and Mini Jack were reunited, he took extra precautions to ensure the toy’s safety.

“I placed him inside a small car that I had, so he will be secure,” Jack said with a smile. “I want to make sure I never lose him again.”
