Honne’s Globetrotting Music: Breaking Barriers and Borders

Honne, the renowned electronic music duo comprised of singer-producer Andy Clutterbuck and producer James Hatcher, recently made a stop at Red House in Joo Chiat. This British tandem has proven that music has the power to transcend barriers and captivate audiences from around the world. Their chart-topping hits such as “Location Unknown,” “Crying Over You,” “No Song Without You,” “Me & You,” and “Free Love” have earned them a dedicated following of over 1 million YouTube subscribers, 1.5 million Spotify followers, and over 4 million weekly online streams.

Honne’s popularity extends beyond their native country, as their music has resonated with fans in Southeast Asia, particularly in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand. During their 2023 Asia tour, the band sold over 50,000 tickets for their shows in the region, including sold-out performances in Manila, Cebu, and Davao in March.

In 2021, Andy and James came up with an innovative concept to connect with their fans and express their artistic vision during the COVID-19 lockdowns. They created a video series called “Inside-out,” featuring acoustic renditions of their hit songs, filmed with a camera placed inside a guitar. The series initially showcased their daily lives but has now expanded with their collaboration with the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Warner Music Singapore. The latest installment, titled “Inside-out in Singapore,” was officially launched on July 18 and can be found on Honne’s Instagram and TikTok pages.

During their visit to Singapore, Andy and James performed exclusive acoustic versions of their songs “Location Unknown,” “Day 1,” and “No Song Without You” in three different neighborhoods: Joo Chiat, Keong Saik Road, and Marina Bay. The collaboration with STB aims to showcase the city-state and inspire Honne’s fans to discover fresh perspectives on Singapore.

When asked about the satisfaction they derive from making music compared to traveling, Andy and James acknowledged that both experiences bring them joy. Traveling informs their songwriting, as seen in the themes of their songs like “Location Unknown.” However, the excitement of creating music in the studio and witnessing fans sing their songs back to them during performances is an incomparable feeling.

As Honne approaches their 10th anniversary as a band, they reflect on the evolution of their music. With each album, they strive to keep their sound fresh and exciting, exploring different genres and styles. Their upcoming album will take yet another new direction, promising an enjoyable and unique listening experience.

Looking back at early reviews of their music, such as The Telegraph’s description of their sound as “futuristic soul destined to reinvent baby-making music,” James and Andy agree that the description was fitting for their earlier work. They appreciate the creativity and accuracy in such reviews and have fond memories of the reaction to their music.

As Honne continues to make music and captivate listeners around the world, their journey is a testament to the power of music to transcend boundaries and bring people together.
