Eventbrite’s Cancellation of our ‘Let Women Speak’ Event Deems Advocates for Female Safety ‘Hateful’

Eventbrite’s recent suppression of political discourse raises concerns about the silencing of women’s voices in important national conversations surrounding female safety in sports, prisons, and battered women’s shelters. As a leader of a chapter within the Independent Women’s Network (IWN), a group that empowers women to make positive contributions to their communities and country, I am deeply troubled by Eventbrite’s decision to ban our page for the event “Let Women Speak Austin,” organized by Michelle Evans, the leader of the IWN Austin chapter.

Eventbrite claims that our event violated their community guidelines by perpetuating hate speech. However, this is far from the truth. Our intention is to provide a platform for women to share their opinions, experiences, and advocate for women’s rights and sex-based protections. Raising awareness about pressing issues such as female inmates being forced to share cells with sex offenders, survivors of abuse being placed in shelters with biological males, and female athletes being at a disadvantage when competing against biological males is not hateful; it is empowering.

It is disheartening to see platforms like Eventbrite label women, including sexual assault survivors, as “hateful” for sharing their valid concerns about the loss of safe spaces. Eventbrite’s CEO, Julia Hartz, has publicly claimed that her company supports events that empower women. However, their actions, along with their lack of response to our outreach, demonstrate a clear disregard for women’s voices and contribute to the troubling trend of cancel culture.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that Eventbrite’s major shareholders include firms like the Vanguard Group and BlackRock, which promote progressive environmental, social, and governance goals. Additionally, Eventbrite employees and related PACs overwhelmingly support Democrats and progressive causes through their political donations. These factors raise concerns about potential biases within the company.

Eventbrite’s actions against conservative women and viewpoints are not isolated incidents. Many Big Tech companies exhibit anti-conservative bias, and legitimate disagreements on important issues, such as protecting women’s rights, should not be grounds for censorship. We cannot allow these companies to discriminate and silence us.

I urge everyone to join us in demanding that Eventbrite reverses its decision and to contact CEO Julia Hartz directly. It is time to let women speak and ensure that platforms like Eventbrite uphold their mission of empowering women. As a user of Eventbrite, I hope to see improvements in their approach moving forward.
