Honda’s Electrifying Micro Van Revolutionizes Inner-City Hauling with Clean and Quiet Efficiency

Honda has recently announced the launch of an electrified version of its popular N-Van, with a range of 210 km. This move is part of Honda’s commitment to selling only electric vehicles in Japan by 2030.

This light commercial electric N-Van is perfect for small-scale deliveries in urban areas. It operates quietly, making it ideal for early morning or late-night deliveries. The electric N-Van has been designed to match the acceleration performance of the gas-powered N-Van turbo model.

The N-Van comes equipped with advanced driver-assist technologies, including traffic sign recognition, lane-keeping function, adaptive cruise control, and parking sensors. It is also the first in its class to have side airbags as a standard feature. Honda designers have made improvements to the brake system for better control during hill descents.

The exterior of the N-Van incorporates recycled materials from old Honda vehicles. The interior features a spacious and high-capacity cargo compartment, thanks to a flat and low floor design with a slim battery mounted underneath.

The rear space of the N-Van is 1.48 m (4.85 ft) in length with the rear bench folded down. It is 1.39 m (4.56 ft) wide and 1.36 m (4.48 ft) high. The passenger and rear seating can be folded flush with the floor to accommodate longer items. The absence of a center pillar on the passenger side allows for easy cargo loading via the passenger door and sliding side door. The N-Van e: has a maximum payload capacity of 300 kg (660 lb).

Honda aims to achieve a WLTC cruising range of 210 km (130 miles) per charge. The charging port is conveniently located at the front of the vehicle. The electric N-Van is compatible with 6-kW chargers, providing a full charge in around 5 hours. It also features an external power port, allowing its battery to be used as a power source for tools, appliances, or emergencies.

The N-Van e: prototype has been undergoing testing since June, with plans for performance testing outside of Japan. If successful, the N-Van e: is expected to be available in Japan starting in spring 2024. It will be offered in three configurations, including a workhorse variant with minimal seating. Unfortunately, the electrified model is not likely to be available in the US.
